I'm Anya the owner and creator of The Mat Connection.
I honour the Women and people who were taking care of this land long before I came to call it home and I am continually learning from past stories how to honour this gift of caretaking for future generations to be able to share it’s rich and diverse origins.
The Mat Connection is located on
Meeanjin Turrbal Country.
(Brisbane Australia)
It is my vision for women to be in connection with their unique self.
Creatively ignites when the Body and Mind are naturally in balance, along with focus and determination it has the power to transform lives.
Through Yoga, Workshops and the scared practice of Ayurveda,
I want to help you tap into this incredible possibility and the practice of weaving elegance, grace, and positivity into living your life regardless of what season of womanhood you are in.
With acknowledgement, respect and a deep gratitude to all my Teachers, the Wisdom holders of past and present generations and the Women in my own personal Lineage who have taught me much about my own path and purpose.
It is by listening that we continue to grow.

Yin Yoga is a gentle floor based practice that invites us as Women to pause and reconnect. Postures are held with awareness to release tension, increase awareness, nurture flexibility and restore balance. The Mat Connection studio the sessions are curated with a feminine focus to bring a sense of ease and flow to body, mind and heart.

Specifically crafted small creative gatherings for Women to pause, and explore themes that spark inner connection and creativity. A gentle space out of the norm to slow down and reconnect with your self and find inspiration and flow.

Ayurveda is a timeless practice that has its origins in Ancient India. Its treatments help restore balance and wellbeing through harmony with Nature. Shirodhara and Shiroabhyanga are nourishing Ayurvedic treatments that help clam the mind and restore balance. Shirodhara offers a steady stream of warm oil over the forehead to quiet mental chatter, while Shiroabhyanga is a soothing head, neck and shoulder massage that eases tension and invites deep relaxation. Together or individually supporting clarity, harmony and a gentle return to the Feminine self.

I haven’t done Yoga before or it’s been awhile since my last class, what can I expect?
At The Mat Connection, There is a focus on slower more Yin based yoga, which involves holding passive stretches for longer periods to soften into the posture at your own pace. Sessions are curated to cultivate awareness, acceptance and the ability to meet the Self in the moment and in what season of life you are in. Using mindfulness and breathing practices it works the connective tissues to promote deep relaxation and encourage flexibility. You don’t have to be flexible to come to a Yin yoga session or have fancy yoga gear, wear what you like and are comfortable moving around the floor in. You are welcome to bring your own mat or borrow one at the studio. Don’t forget to bring water to stay hydrated and a towel to cover your mat if wanting.
What is a Creative Workshop?
Despite the name a Creative Workshop is far from work! It is the synergy of a creative theme, elements of Yoga and coming together to share a morning tea, or lunch or both depending on the timing of the specific session. You do not have to be artistic, have done yoga or be flexible. Come with the idea that this is your time, your space and your ability to recharge curiously down an enticing rabbit hole!
Ayurveda is new to me, what is a treatment and why and when is best for me to book one?
An Ayurveda treatment uses timeless natural therapies, oils and rituals to restore balance and nourish your body’s wellbeing and harmonise your body, mind and spirit connection.
The best time to book a treatment is when you feel you need it. If possible a few close together or as a regular self care ritual.
For oil treatments this is ideally in the morning or the afternoon with time after at home to wash the hair.
It is possible to book non oil treatments based on the rituals of Ayurveda but are not strictly Ayurveda. These are more massage / Aromatherapy based.
